533,780. Coating moulds. INTERNATIONAL DE LAVAUD MANUFACTURING CORPORATION Ltd. Aug. 15, 1939, No. 23547. Convention date, Sept. 9, 1938. [Class 83 (i)] Mould-coating apparatus as described in Specification 423,612 is provided with an additional nozzle 10 by which gas carrying powder is directed against the end portion 2 of the mould 1 when the apparatus is in the starting position. After a core, not shown, has been inserted in the bell mouth 2 the apparatus 6, Fig. 2, for supplying gas carrying powder is started and regulated by either of the switches 30, 31 and when the end portion of the mould is coated sufficiently metal is poured into the runner 25. When the bell portion is filled with molten metal the mould is traversed towards the left and a finger 24 trips a switch 23 which causes electromagnetic means 20 to move a valve 16 and direct the supply of gas &c. to the main nozzle 9 instead of the nozzle 10 so that the remainder of the mould is progressively coated during casting. If desired, the apparatus 6 may be turned off after the bell 2 has been coated and until the mould traverse is started. In a modification the mould is stationary and the runner &c. traversed.
