532,900. Arm rests for seats. STABLEFORD, J. L. Aug. 30, 1939, No. 24932. [Class 52 (ii)] Removable arm rests 14, 15, Fig. 1, for motor vehicle seats 20 are mounted on inverted U-shaped front and back supports 5 adapted to spring over or between edges of the seat cushions. When fitted to seats spaced apart the supports are sprung into position to engage the ends of the seats. The supports are connected by front to rear rails 4 and the arm rests are secured to the top cross members 12, 13 by screws or by bolts the latter if desired being adjustable in slots, and provision being made if desired for angular adjustment in the vertical planes. The supports may be connected by an arched spring member 23 above a housing 21 for the propeller shaft. Where a hand brake extends horizontally between the seats the front cross member 12 may be V. shaped in plan to accommodate it. For wider seats the arm rests may be carried on frames 36, Fig. 5, engaging behind and around the front of the seats. A pair of arm rests close together or spaced apart to provide a seat space between them, or a wide arm rest, may be carried on connected frames. The rests may be of sponge rubber filling suitably covered.
