Abstract

532,298. Grinding slicing-machine knives. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. (Maatschappij van Berkel's Patent N.V., and Berkel, C. F. M. van). Aug. 25, 1939, No. 24478. [Class 60] An attachment for grinding the knives of slicing-machines has a self-acting locking means to maintain the wheel against retrograde displacement from an adjustable grinding position. The attachment is mounted on the usual knife bracket by a post and nut and carries a sharpening wheel 7 and grinding wheel 8 mounted in sleeves pressed away from the knife by springs 9 as limited by pins 13, 12. The pin 12 projects for engagement by a lever 19 pivoted to the sleeve of the wheel 8 and shaped at 21 to be engaged by a lever 14 pivoted at 15. A bolt 22 passes through a locking-washer 23 in the lever 14 tilted to locking position by a spring. A hand lever 16 is pivoted with limited movement to the lever 14. Movement towards the wheels brings them into grinding position; movement in the reverse direction causes a pin 25 to tilt the washer to non-locking position enabling the springs to release the sleeves.
