Abstract
679,579. Trueing grinding wheels. WHEEL TRUEING TOOL CO. March 16, 1950 [April 23, 1949], No. 6589/50. Class 60. A mechanism for indexing a tool 13 for truei ing a grinding wheel 10 comprises a shank 15, a bifurcated pawl 22 pivotally mounted on the shank which is secured to a housing 11 for vertical adjustment, and a stop 29 carried by the shank for limiting the movement of the pawl. The tool 13 may be a diamond and is mounted in a rotatable. holder 12 provided with a sprocket wheel 14 which strikes the pawl 22 at the end of each traverse of the tool across the peripheral face of the grinding wheel 10 to index the diamond. The pawl has a bevelled edge to facilitate engagement with the teeth of the sprocket wheel and is mounted by means of two locked screws on the end of the shank 15. The stop 29 overlaps one side of the pawl so that the latter may swing in one direction only. In a second embodiment the dressing assembly is supported by a cylindrical shank 38, Fig. 6, from the top portion of the guard. The lower end of this shank has a flat portion 43 provided with three threaded holes to one of which a plate 47 for pivotally supporting the pawl 50 is secured, the plate having a slot to accommodate the securing bolt so that the inclination and position of the plate with respect to the shank may be adjusted. Two springs 60, 62 secured by a single bolt 64 to the plate 47 resist the movement of the pawl 50 when it is swung about its pivot at the start of the return movement of the tool after indexing.
