666,121. Sharpening slicing machine knives. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. (Maatschappij van Berkel's Patent N.V.). Oct. 27, 1947 [Oct. 4, 1946], No. 29716/46. Class 60. [Also in Group VI] Knife sharpening apparatus for a disc knife slicing machine is housed within a receptacle formed by the top of the knife bracket in conjunction with the slice deflector, the grinding wheels and a top cover forming a unit assembly which is raised from the inoperative position, rotated and lowered to the operative position. The grinding wheels are mounted on a hollow body 14, Fig. 2, which is secured by a spring clip 54 to a tongue 52 on the casing 16, the whole unit sliding on a pillar 21 on the top 10 of the knife bracket. Diametrically opposite grooves 38 in the pillar 21 engage a screw to prevent the unit rotating unless raised. An annular recess 40 permits rotation when the unit is raised, and a cut-away portion 41 enables the unit to be lifted off the post. The unit is also guided by a fixed, slotted arm 42 that is engaged in the inoperative position, by a pin 45. As the unit is moved into the operative position, the finishing wheel 12 and its spring loaded sleeve 51 are temporarily moved forward clear of the knife by a lever 47 having a pin 49 in engagement with a cam 46 formed on arm 42.
