MAATSCHAPPIJ VAN BERKEL'S PATENT NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP, (formerly NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP MAATSCHAPPIJ TOT VERVAARDIGING VAN SNIJMACHINES VOLGENS VAN BERKEL'S PATENT EN VAN ANDERE WERKTUIGEN), 33, Boezemsingel, Rotterdam, Holland. July 23, 1934, No. 21441. Convention date, July 21, 1933. [Class 60] A sharpening-device for the rotary knife of a slicing-machine comprises a housing 9 pivoted at 8 to the machine frame 7 and carrying an abrasive wheel 13 and a burr-removing wheel 15. The wheel 15 is carried by a spindle 16 journalled in a sleeve 24, slidable in the housing 9, and pressed to carry the wheel 15 towards the plane 18-18 of the knife edge by a spring 19. A pin 23 projects from the sleeve, and as the housing 9 is moved about its pivot, from an inoperative position, towards the knife, the pin is engaged first by an incline B on a cam 22 to move the wheel 15 away from the knife, and then by an incline A which allows the spring 19 to move the wheel against the knife. The cam is provided on a lever 22<1> pivoted on a screw 8<1> and is adjustable about the pivot and locked in adjusted position by a slotted arm and a screw. As described, the wheels 13, 15 move substantially simultaneously into engagement with the knife ; the arrangement may be such, however, that the wheels are positioned independently.
