Cutting slices in succession.-A slice deflector is adjustable across the back of the knife to permit re-positioning of the deflector when it is rendered necessary by the receding of the knife edge consequent on grinding. The deflector is so mounted that it is easily removable for cleaning, and takes up the adjusted position when it is again secured to the machine. As shown in Fig. 2, the deflector 21 bears against the knife 11, and is secured to a block 17 which is clamped on a rod 15 by a set-screw 18. The rod 15 is carried by a bracket 13 mounted on the knife bracket, and is substantially parallel to the bevelled edge 16 of the knife 11, so that the block 17 and the deflector 21 are adjusted parallel to the bevel. The deflector is removable from the block 17 for cleaning, and when re-attached, flanges on the deflector embrace the top and bottom edges of the block. The securing screw 24 is prevented from becoming separated from the deflector by a shoulder 25 which is accommodated in a recess in the deflector.
