Abstract
349,891. Slicing-machines. FITZPATRICK, H. D., 94, Hope Street, Glasgow. -(Naamlooze Vennootschap tot Vervaardiging van Smijmachines Volgens van Berkel's Patent en van Andere Werktuigen ; 33, Boezemsingel, Rotterdam, Holland.) Oct. 30, 1930, No. 32574. [Class 28 (ii).] In a slicing-machine of the kind in which the knife is moved to and fro across the front of the holder for the substance, the knife is mounted in such a way that it can be turned laterally away from the holder, thereby giving free access to the holder for manipulating the substance to be sliced. As shown in plan in the Figure, the knife 2 is mounted on a hand-operated swinging arm 3 journalled at its upper end in a bridge-like member 4 on which the motor 7 is mounted. The member 4 is pivoted on a pin 11, and when it is swung away from the holder, the weight of the knife mounting is supported by a quadrant 12. The knife mounting is held in its operative position by a spring device comprising a pivoted arm 14 to which a lever 18 is pivoted at 17, the end of the lever 18 being formed as an eccentric 20. The lever 18 is urged away from a fixed arm 13 by a compression spring 19, and stops 15, 16 limit the travel of the levers 14, 18. To release the catch, the lever 18 is pressed towards the arm 13, thereby revolving the levers 14, 18 clockwise to disengage the eccentric 20 from a projection 21 on the machine frame.
