Abstract

309,637. Gandil, E. V. Jan. 18, 1928. Machine cutiers, grinding in situ. - A device for sharpening circular knives, for example, slicing machine knives, consists of two grinding- blocks 16<a>, 16<b>, loosely pivoted to levers 12<c>, 12<b> fulcrummed at 13 to arms 14 on a housing 1, which has an arm 2 for attachment to the slicing &c. machine frame. The levers are actuated to move the blocks up to, and away from the knife 17 by arms 9 on a stem 4 movable in the housing and pressed downwards by a spring 6, the stem being raised and lowered by a nut 7 screwing on the stem; pins 10 on the arms 9 engage in slots 11 in the levers 12a, 12<b> to press the blocks resiliently against the knife, which is rotated during sharpening. The Provisional Specification describes also a construction in which the spring tends to lift the stem and keep the blocks away from the knife.
