Abstract
515,954. Grinding rotary cutters. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., HAZELTON, G., and CHOICE, F. C. June 16, 1938, No. 17866. [Class 60] [Also in 'Group VII] In machines of the kind described in Specification 411,448, [Group VII], improved means are provided for grinding the cutters and trueing the grinding-wheel. For grinding, the cutter is placed on a spindle on an arm 475, Fig. 13, and traversed across a driven grinding-wheel 417. The arm 475 is supported by a plunger 465, Fig. 15, resting on a roll 453 at one end of a bell crank lever restrained by a link 451 and pivoted to a pivoted arm 437 having a roll 441 engaging a cam surface 443. The cutter is reciprocated across the grinding-wheel by a handle 425, the cam causing the rise and fall of the cutter so that the required contour is ground on the knives. A spring plunger 481 holds the cutter stationary while each of its blades is ground. For trueing the grinding-wheel, a diamond 485, Fig. 16, is movable about an axis 491 to follow the transverse contour of the wheel, and' is adjusted towards or from the axis of the wheel about a pivot 495.
