Abstract

530,535. Sharpening slicing-machine cutters. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., and THOMAS, H. June 27, 1939, No. 18636. [Class 60] Relates to grinding-means for the circular cutters of slicing machines of the type in which the device is displaceable into and out from an operative position and consists in a holder mounted for pivoted and sliding displacement such that by pressing towards the cutter the holder is displaced at a level clear of the cutter into the cutter plane and then pivots automatically into the operative position. The holder 7 is carried by an arm 9 having a boss 11 and extension 10. The extent of both longitudinal and pivotal movement is limited by a pin 14 and arcuate slot 15. The boss is mounted on a pivot pin 12 partly hollow to contain a spring 18 retained by a cap 16. In the inoperative position the surface 10a rests against the flange 19 of a nut screwed on a stud 21. If the holder 7 be pushed towards the cutter as soon as the grinding-wheels are in the operative plane the projection slides off the flange and the arm rotates by gravity till the surface 10b contacts with the eccentric portion 20 of the nut. The handle 8 is then operated to press the grinding wheels axially into contact with the cutter under spring pressure as described in Specifications 327,331 and 315,655, [both in Class 60]. As the cutter wears, shims or washers are placed beneath the nut so that the eccentric portion assumes a different position enabling the arm to swing through a greater angle. After grinding the arm is rocked to bring the wheels clear of the cutter when the spring 18 returns the holder to its initial position.
