Abstract

518,062. Seats. CHAPMAN, A. W. Aug. '5, 1938, Nos. 18894/39 and 18896/39. Divided out of 518,018. [Class 52 (ii)] A seat pivoted on a transverse axis 29 at or near its front is supported at or near its rear by an angularly movable lever device 31 slidably co-operating with abutment surfaces and operating as a strut to vary the tilt of the seat. The baseboard 10 of the seat is provided at the front with depending lugs 26 pivoted by pins 29 in one of a number .of holes 30 in upturned ends 28 of slides 27. A U-shaped lever 31 pivoted to the rear of the seat at 33 has a crossbar 32 engaging a pair of inclined abutment surfaces 34 integral with the slides 27. A rod 36 mounted by means of a collar 37 on the cross bar :32 is internally screwed at 38 to receive a screwed rod 39 rotatable by a handle 40 at the front of the seat. The lever device may be pivoted to the slide 27 and abut against a slotted member or a curved abutment mounted on the underside of the seat. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the lever engages recesses 43 in the abutment 42 and is manually operated, after the rear of the seat 'has been lifted, to engage the appropriate recess.
