Abstract

551,813. Seats. CHESTON, A. S., CHESTON, B., EDMONDS, E. C., (trading as HALLAM, SLEIGH & CHESTON), and ROBERTSON, R. Jan. 1, 1942, Nos. 29 and 3004. [Class 52 (ii)] In an adjustable seat supported on X-legs 15, 18, the seat frame and base are connected to the ends of the legs by pivots 14, 33 and slides 9, 34, springs operating on the legs tend to raise the seat frame and manually operated locking means are provided for locking the legs in any one of a number of adjusted positions. The seat as a whole is locked to supporting guides 28 by spring-pressed catches 39, Fig. 4, engaging notches 42 but the catches may be released to permit movement bodily of the seat along the guides, by depressing a hand lever 46 connected to the catches by a cross bar 44. When it is desired to change the height of the seat, the hand lever 46 is turned about its pivot 45 to withdraw locking bolts 51 from engagement with notches in sliding links 35 connecting the legs 15 to the supporting slides 31 of the legs 18. The legs may now be spread or closed to adjust the height of the seat, springs 60, 27 assisting the raising of the seat. The bolts 51 are returned by springs 53 and are allowed independent freedom of return by lost-motion slots 56 in an intermediate actuating lever 54.
