Abstract

496,188. Bed-settees. DUCROT, A. May 17, 1938, No. 14741. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1937. [Class 52 (ii)] A seat convertible into a bed comprises a seat portion a combined with a bed frame formed in four hinged sections b, c, d, e, the rear portion b being rigidly secured to rear edge of the seat a. The bed frame sections are hinged together at 5, 6, 7, and carry a flexible mattress support such as crossed steel bands tensioned by springs. At the foot of the bed the elements e are provided with short arms 15, supporting, by means of pivots 16, levers f which are connected together by a foot cross piece g which serves to retain the mattress 14 in the closed position. The bed is provided at each side with legs h, i, j, k, the two first of which are provided with castors 17, 18, and are pivoted to elements band c at 19, 20. The leg j is pivoted on the pivot 7 and the leg k is pivoted at 21 on element e. The elements of the bed and the legs are connected by levers and links m, n, o, p, q, in such a manner that when the seat is raised the bed sections may be extended into alignment, with the assistance of spring S, by lifting the foot piece g. In the closed position the legs j and k fold up and do not support the seat. Specifications 489,527 and 495,953 are referred to.
