Abstract

679,318. Seats. ACCLES & POLLOCK, Ltd. June 5, 1951. [July 19, 1950] No. 18012/50. Class 52 (ii). A seat particularly for vehicles, comprises a base, a back rest pivoted thereon, a seat member supported at the front on the base and at the rear on the back rest and a manual locking mechanism for locking the back rest in adjusted position. As shown the base comprises end frames a connected by transverse members b, c, a back rest frame bent forwardly at its lower end the side members e of which are connected by cross member f and are pivoted to the base on the transverse member c. One of the side members e is extended forwardly to form a lever g which forms part of the locking mechanism. The seat member i is supported on the transverse members b, f of the base and back rest respectively. Carried by links n from a base member o is a plate having a slot k provided with a number of notches m with a selected one of which engages a pin q carried by the lever g. A handle p is secured to a link n. The weight of the occupant tends to swing the back rest forwardly and when it is desired to adjust the back rest the pin q is released from the notch m by the handle p and the back rest allowed to move forwardly or pressed rearwardly by the occupant to the desired extent and the pin q is then engaged in the appropriate notch m by means of the handle p.
