Abstract
532,091. Blasting cartridges. SCHNEIDER, E. Aug. 17, 1939, No. 23737. [Class 9 (i)] Electric detonators or detonators with attached fuzes are secured in explosive charges by a device adapted to be pushed into the. charge from the side or in between the charge and the end of its casing, and which acts as a stop to prevent withdrawal of the detonator by engaging with the end of the detonator or with a recess such as those formed by crimping the detonator on to the fuze. In one form, the device comprises a plate 1 having a keyhole opening 2, 4. A pointed end 6 allows it to be pushed into the top of the casing 8 of the charge 5. After being partly inserted, the detonator is passed into the charge through the hole 2 of the plate after which the plate is pushed further in so that the rear edge 7 is flush with the casing 8. The smaller part 4 of the slot then prevents withdrawal of the detonator by engaging about the fuze 10 or in a recess 11 of the detonator. The plate may be forked as shown in Fig. 10. Alternatively, the plate may be formed with slits 27, 28, Fig. 12, which allow the detonator to be passed through but prevent withdrawal, as shown in Fig. 14. In another form, Fig. 17, the device comprises two relatively-slidable plates, so that the opening 36 through which the detonator is passed can be partially closed to prevent withdrawal
