Abstract
574,132. Military land mines. MOT. LEY, L. June 12, 1942, No. 8096. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii)] A land mine which is adapted to be projected above ground level by means of a spring or a propellent charge before exploding, and has both an impact and a time fuze incorporated in the mine to explode it on impact or after it has reached a predetermined distance above ground level, has the top surface reentrant into the bursting charge to focus the upward blast. The mine casing 1 is provided with a sleeve projection 10 which fits over a stud 9 projecting from a base-plate 3 on which is supported a battery 6 in a casing 17. Above the stud 9 is a propellent charge 7 adapted to be ignited from the battery through a switch 5 comprising a rubber tube with annular, contact segments 11, 12 which, on being compressed by a passing vehicle, completes the circuit through the battery and the propellent, so that the mine is ejected. An impact fuze 20 comprising a spring-retarded striker 18 and a detonating charge 19 is provided in a perforated tube 20 enclosed by the main charge 2 so that should the mine strike a tank or other vehicle it is exploded. The front end 1 of the mine is conically recessed in order to focus the explosive force. To operate the fuze at a height above ground if impact does not occur, a coiled string 8 is attached to the base-plate 3 and to a retaining stop 24 of a spring-actuated striker 27 so that the stop is withdrawn and the mine is fired after reaching a predetermined height above ground level.
