[Class 39 (i)] In a lamp as described in the parent Specification, an electrode of the discharge device is heated independently of the discharge by connecting the electrode or an indirectly heating element therefore in series with the parallel connected filament. A thermally operated switch or a resistor whose conductivity rises rapidly with temperature may be connected across the electrode or its heating element, so that the heating of the electrode ceases when the full operating condition of the discharge device is attained.
