530,405. Discharge lamps. ELECTRICITATSGES. SANITAS. June 22, 1939, Nos. 18245 and 18246. Convention dates, June 22, 1938, and Oct. 4, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] In order to reduce disintegration the electrodes of a high-pressure, long-arc, gas-filled mercuryvapour lamp are so constructed that the voltagedrop at the electrodes is not more than 50 volts. For this purpose the electrodes are preferably made of thin sheet tantalum, between .05 and .25 mm. thick, though tungsten, molybdenum, or niobrium may also be employed. They may be U-shaped, cylindrical, or hemispherical, and openings may be made in them to reduce conduction of heat. Thin wire electrodes, preferably rounded, bent, or knotted at the ends, may be employed, or a spiral sheet of thin metal may be attached to a wire electrode. The portions of the envelope near the electrodes may be surrounded by reflecting screens. Specification 501,854 is referred to.
