Abstract
530,298. Arc-rupturing in switches. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. June 21, 1939, No. 18090. Convention date, July 2, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] An electromagnetic contactor, Fig. 1 (not shown) has a magnetic blow-out device comprising a coil 25 and pole plates 26 fixed to opposite outer sides of an arc shoot 24, which also carries the arc horn 23 of the movable contact 3, the other contact 2 being fixed to a U-shaped arc horn 22 which is fixed at 27 on the panel 1. The core 32 is carried on brackets 33 and engages recesses 37 in the pole plates 23 whereby the shoot 24 may be fixed and removed, Fig. 5. Side shields 38 are bolted at 40 to the top shield 39 of the shoot, and are shaped to fit over ribs 30 on arc horn 22 and provided with inserts 41 of arc-resisting material such as "Carbofrax" (Registered Trade Mark). The upper part of arc horn 22 is formed with an arc-dissipating surface 29 which, with the shields 38; 39, forms an air pocket 42 of narrow cross-section into which one end of the arc is driven. A similar surface 43 is formed on the arc horn 23 which is fixed to shields 38 by screws 46, which serve also to connect the arc horn to a conductor .47, which is bolted at 40 to one shield 38 and is connected through a terminal of the device to contact 3. The innermost bolts 40 are formed so as pivotally to engage recesses 56 in brackets 53, whereby the shoot can be removed by lifting its outer end.
