530,118. Driving dynamos. FRIEMANN & WOLF GES. June 3, 1939, No. 16379. Convention date, June 3, 1938. [Class 35] A generator for use in mines is driven by compressed air acting on a turbine wheel or wheels on the generator shaft, the air being admitted through two or more nozzles arranged in the wall or end cover of the generator housing. Fig. 1, shows a generator with a rotor 3 at the ends of which are turbine wheels 4, 5 to which air is admitted by passages 9 and nozzles 14, 15. The dotted lines 20, 21, 22 show an alternative arrangement of passages and nozzles. The used air issues through openings 16, 17 and is directed over the outside of the generator casing by baffles 18, 19. A modification is described having only a single turbine wheel to which air is admitted by a ring of nozzles. Similar rings may be provided for the two turbines shown in Fig. 1.
