Abstract

529,491. Typewriters. SOC. STENOTYPE GRANDJEAN. June 2, 1939, No. 16227. Convention date, June 11, 1938. [Class 100 (iv)] Web-feeding arrangements. In stenographic machines employing a paper web 16 which passes from a roll 14, over the platen 18, and on to a winding-roller 6, the roll is freely mounted by means of its core 15 on an overhanging spindle 11, the arrangement facilitating insertion and removal of the roller, and causing slight tension to be applied to the web. Preferably, the spindle is secured to a pivoted arm 9 (not shown) and the roll is engaged by flanges 13 on the spindle, and another pivoted arm 10. The web passes through a recess 17 in the back plate 3, and is guided by lugs 20 on a plate 21 which is adjustably secured by screws 22. To provide for silent unwinding of the web from the roller 6, the actuating-arm 26 therefor can be disengaged by means of a cam 29 actuated by a finger-piece 31.
