Abstract
242,287. Wirz, A. Oct. 28, 1924, [Convention date]. Web feeding and guiding arrangements.-In a duplicating or manifolding apparatus for use with a typewriter or as an autographic register, a number of webs are fed by two separated feedrollers actuated by a common driving shaft and spools for winding ink-ribbons disposed between the webs and arranged in the space between the feed rollers and are driven yieldingly by mechanism actuated bv the driving-shaft. Three webs on spools 3, 4, 5 are led over a guide 13 and the platen roller 14 of a typewriter and thence over feedrollers 15, 28, guides 23 - - 27 being provided for separating the webs between the feedrollers. Ink ribbons disposed between the webs are taken from spools 9, 10, and after passing the feed-rollers 15 are wound on spools 21,22. The feed-roller 15 engages a pressure-roller 16 secured to a shaft 17 geared to the shaft 48 of the feedroller, the shaft 17 being mounted in arms 18 on a shaft 18<1> provided with a leaf spring 19 abutting on an adjusting-screw 20. The feedroller 28 engages a pressure-roller 29 on a shaft 30<1> geared to the shaft 28<11> of the feed-roller 28, the shaft 30<1> being mounted in rook-arms 30 and one of the rock-arms having a leaf spring 31 adjustable by a screw 32. The feed-rollers and pressure-rollers are narrow and engage the webs at the middle, the sides of the webs being supported by pairs of rollers 15', 28<1> on the shafts 48, 28". The driving-shaft 34 carries a loose pinion 46 which is geared to the shafts 28", 48 of the feed-rollers 28, 15 and is provided with a ratchet-wheel 45 co-operating with a pawl 44 on a rock-arm 35 normally abusing on a stop 43. A hand-crank 36, loose on the shaft 34, is arranged on being rocked from a stop 39 to a stop 40 to engage a pin 42 on the rock-arm 35, the arm being thereby rocked and the feed-rollers operated. The pin 43 can be placed in any one of a @eries of holes 53 to adjust the feed-movement. A coiled returning-spring 52 is connecled to the hand-crank and rock-arm. Web-cutting arrangements.-A knife 84, having two cutting-edges arranged in an inverted V, is provided with blocks 80, 81 sliding on rods 83 secured to a plate 82 having a slot for the passage of the webs. The blocks 80 are connected by links 79 to arms 76, 78 on a rock-shaft 77, the arm 76 having a roller 75 engaging a cam 74 on the driving-shaft 34. When the handcrank 86 is returned from the stop 40 to the stop 39, pawls 37 on the hand-crank co-operate with a notched disc 38 to rotate the driving-shaft, and the knife is depressed. The rods 83 are provided with returning-springs 87 for the knife. Ink-ribbon mechanism.-The spools 21. 22 for winding the ink ribbons have pinions 59, 58, Fig. 6, engaging loose pinions 69 on a shaft 57 which is geared to the driving-shaft 34, each pinion 69 being associated with the following yielding driving-mechanism,-The pinion 69 is provided with a ratchet-wheel 68 engaging a pawl 71 on a loose arm 67 connected to a coiled spring 72 and co-operating with pins 62 which pass through radial slots in a disc 60 secured to the shaft 57, and are carried by a ring 66 revoluble on a stationary eccentric boss. At each operation of the driving-shaft, one of the pins 62 rocks the arm 67, thereby retracting the pawl and tensioning the spring, and when the pin releases the arm it is returned by the spring and the pawl is operative to wind the ink ribbon, the movement of the pawl decreasing as the diameter of the wound-up ink ribbon increases.
