Convention date, Nov. 2, 1929. [Class 100 (iv).] Paper-supports sheet feeding and guiding arrangements.-The roller-platen frame of a type-lever machine is replaced by a plate which is provided with a platen and sheet-feeding arrangements and can be moved rearwardly until it is behind the rear wall of the typewriter. When the plate is in the rear position, the sheets are assembled on the plate in the relative positions required for condensed billing, and the plate is then returned to the normal position. In the apparatus shown in Fig. 2, the roller-platen frame is replaced by a frame comprising arched side-plates h which are detachably connected to rocking arms d on the carriage e and have a cross-rod g resting on the shift roller f. A plate p, connected by rocking arms l, k to the side plates, is formed at the bottom with a curved platen pl arranged above an apron m on the side plates, the gap being adjustable by means of an eccentric n. A roller platen may replace the platen p<1>. Feedrollers o<1> for the sheets x are carried by a shaft o which is mounted on the plate and can be turned by means of knobs. The feedrollers co-operate with rollers o<3> on spring- urged arms o<4>. The sheets have marginal perforations for engaging sprockets q, Fig. 4, on the shaft. A detent s co-operates with a ratchet-wheel r to hold the shaft. The sheets are held on the plate by means of pivoted fingers t, and a strip m<1> secured to rocking arms m<2>. Before the sheets are assembled, the plate is swung rearwardly until it is behind the rear wall of the typewriter, the position being determined by stops l<2>, h<1>. After the sheets have been passed over the plate, they are assembled in the required relative positions by the aid of the sprockets q, and are gripped by the 'feed-rollers. The plate is then returned into the normal position, the lower ends of the sheets resting on the apron m. Marginal perforations in the sheets may be omitted, the feed-rollers or retractable pins being employed for holding the sheets after they have been assembled. Ink-ribbon mechanism.-A duplicating inkribbon, guided along the printing line, is wound on spools v, Fig. 2, mounted on a shaft v<1> on the plate p, one of the spools having a ratchetwheel v<3> co-operating with a pawl v<4> operated by the feed-roller detent s.
