[Class 100 (ii)] In an addressing or like machine in which printing-plates 25, shown in plan, are fed in succession to printing position 26 to print on a continuous-form strip advanced intermittently by movably mounted register pins engaging perforations in the strip, mechanism is provided for feeding and guiding a transfer strip 17 across the printing position and between the superposed parts 18, 19, of a longitudinally folded strip 20, so that the strip 17 enters and leaves the space between the parts 18, 19, the feed mechanisms of the strip 20, plates 25 and transfer strip 17 being driven intermittently and in timed relation. The strip 17 may follow a path oblique to that of the strip 20 to equalise wear on the strip 17. The strip 17 unwinds from a roll 1, passes through a slot 11 in a base plate 4 resting on and spaced slightly above a table 21 is turned through a right angle by the edge 15 of a guide 13 over which the strip passes to printing position and then over a guide 14 having an edge 16 for turning the strip through a right angle for rewinding by a roller 10 : the edges 15 and 16 are rounded, or rollers are mounted thereon, to reduce friction. The roller 10 is fixed on a drive shaft 6, and the roller 1 is supported in slots in brackets 3 so as to rest on and be driven by rollers fixed on the shaft 6 ; alternatively, the strip may be unwound by friction rollers, and driving-rollers may act on the wound roll. The shaft 6 and a shaft 31 whereby the strip 20 is fed, are driven from a gear box 30, driven from a motor which also drives the plate feed and actuates a rocking platen arm 28. If the strip 20 is folded more than once, a second transfer strip feed mechanism may be provided. Specification 465,985 is referred to.
