392,582. Typewriters &c. BRITISH TABULATING MACHINE CO., Ltd., Victoria House, Vernon Place, Southampton Row, London.-(International Business Machines Corporation ; 270, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.) Nov. 19, 1931, No. 32112. [Class 100 (iv).] Line - spacing mechanism. - In the printing mechanism of a statistical machine means are provided for linespacing two superposed sheets past the rotatable platen by different amounts. The web 11 is fed round a platen 10 in the ordinary way by rotation of the platen, the line-spacing rotation of the platen being controlled by the total shaft. A second web 11a also passes in front of the platen and then over a feed roller 20 which is driven from the total shaft by a Geneva-stop motion and a train of gears so that the web 11a is advanced a certain amount for every rotation of the shaft. Ink ribbons 22 pass between the platen and web 11 and between web 11 and web 11a, and printing is effected by type-bars 14. The takeup roll 21 of the web 11a is driven positively by a chain and sprocket from the roller 20. The intermediate gears between the Geneva motion and the roller 20 may be changeable to give a different ratio between the two linespacing motions.
