Abstract

542,938. Ink-ribbon mechanism. BRUMHILL, C. W. July 31, 1940, No. 12410. [Class 100 (iv)] A device for feeding a ribbon, particularly a carbon ribbon which is used once only, can be readily substituted for one of the usual ribbon-spools of a typewriter, and is driven by the existing spooldrive at such a rate that successive type-impressions do not overlap. The device shown in Figs. 1 and 3 is mounted as a unit on a base 11 which, after removal of the spool, is placed in the spool-cup. A rotatable sleeve 13, adapted to be slipped on to the spoolshaft, supports a rubber-faced roller 16a which is coupled to the sleeve by a feather 17 and is retained by a washer 18. The roller 16a co-operates with a pressure-roller 20 carried by a spring-urged lever 21. A plate 26 supports guides 24, 25 for guiding the ribbon R to and from the nip of the rollers. The sleeve 13 is geared to the roller 16a by pinions 28, 29, 31, 32 having a gear-ratio of, for instance, 1 to 3.25. The base is secured by co-operation of a lug 34, Fig. 2 (not shown) on the base, and a spring- urged lever 35 with opposite edges of a slot in the spool-housing.
