527,781. Assembling &c. cylinder heads. HALLEWELL, G., and BLACKSTONE & CO., Ltd. April 15, 1939. No. 11502. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii)] A device for use in removing and replacing the cylinder head of a horizontal reciprocating engine without damaging the studs comprises a bracket having a foot 7 that engages the cylinder close to the joint face and rear members 8 attached to the cylinder by screws 9 if possible engaging existing holes such as those for the cooling-water pipe flange. The.bracket supports a bar 5 extending over the cylinder head and fitted with a sliding collar 6 having a boss tapped to receive a screw 14 having a hexagonal portion 17 and a collar 18. A plate 15 is mounted on the screw to swivel on the collar and is attached to the cylinder head for example by bolts engaging the air inlet flange. The head can be slid along the bar without damaging the threads of the studs and can then be swivelled to give access to the valves, piston &c. In the case of very large cylinder heads the outer end of the bar 5 may be supported by a column.
