Abstract

526,950. Pipe couplings. AVERY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and FISHER, R. J. March 16, 1939, No. 8177. [Class 99 (i)] A plurality of valved pipe couplings are made together by mounting one of each pair of coupling elements on one of two support members and drawing the supports together to complete the joints and open the valves, a fluid-tight joint being made before the valves are opened. The engaging parts of the valves fit together to exclude air. A plate 11 carrying the spigots 12a of the joint described in Specification 522,596 has a central rod 19 which passes through a sleeve 20 in a plate 17 carrying the socket members 12b. The plates are drawn together by a cam lever 10 having a pin 22 engaging a slot 21 in the rod 19. Modifications are described in which the supports are drawn together by wedges, bolts or fluid pressure. Specification 480,241 also is referred to.
