Abstract
525,315. Recovering polyhydric alcohols. SPEAS DEVELOPMENT CO. Feb. 17, 1939, No. 5340. Convention date, Feb. 24, 1938. [Class 91] A process for the recovery of polyhydric alcohols, e.g., glycerine, from aqueous solutions or concentrates, comprises treating the liquor with an extraction solvent selected from the group alcohols, esters, or ethers, having a molecular weight greater than that of ethyl alcohol, and being a solvent for polyhydric alcohol at room temperature, and being partly or wholly immiscible with water. Examples of such solvents are n-butyl alcohol, sec. butyl alcohol, iso-butyl alcohol, propyl alcohols, benzyl alcohol, butyl lactate, propyl lactate, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, ethylbutyl alcohol, amyl alcohols, triacetin and methyl-nbutyl-carbinol. Specification 513,595 is referred to. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, methyl ethyl ketone may be used as the extraction solvent, but this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
