[Class 7 (vi)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXIX] The inlet at 3 and exhaust at 4 of an internalcombustion, steam, or compressed-gas engine, or of a hydraulic motor, are controlled by piston valves 1 and 2 respectively, connected by rods 9 and 10 to cranks 11 and 12 which are disposed at 90 degrees to one another, the arrangement being such that, at the end of the compression stroke, the cranks 11, 12 and rods 9, 10 are symmetrical with the cylinder axis, the rods preferably being crossed.
