Abstract

525,073. Packing rings for pipe joints. INSHAW, G. R. Feb. 14, 1939, No. 4781. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a joint in which a flexible packing ring 1 is located internally of the adjacent ends of two pipes and is held against them by internal fluid pressure, the ring is reinforced by an embedded ring 3 having flexible tongues 3a which extend towards the edges of the packing ring. The tips 3b of the tongues which engage in grooves in the mould in which the ring is formed may subsequently be removed. The flange 1a of the rubber ring may be dispensed with or replaced by a metal collar vulcanized to the rubber or formed integral with the ring 3. Specification 347,736 is referred to.
