Abstract
524,642. Valve gear. ROWLEDGE, A. J. Feb. 2, 1939, No. 3532. [Class 7 (vi)] In a two-stroke sleeve-valve engine, the sleeves are actuated from a crank shaft 24 through connecting-rods 27 and bell cranks 28, the valve cranks being arranged at such an angle to the corresponding main cranks that the secondary unbalanced forces of the sleeves and pistons are opposed. The Figure shows a V-engine, with the sleeve valves actuated from a shaft disposed parallel to the main shaft and between the two banks of cylinders. When a piston and the corresponding sleeve valve are at the same end of a stroke, their cranks are at opposite dead-centres.
