Abstract

524,584. Type-bar-making machines. LINOTYPE & MACHINERY, Ltd., SCOTT, R. H., GORSE, W. F., and HAYWARD, A. S. Feb. 1, 1939, No. 3418. [Class 100 (iii)] Assembling matrices.-The assembling mech- anism is provided with one or more cover-plates, which carry means for effecting adjustments, such as easing the lower belt pulley in order to move a matrix jammed on the star-wheel, setting the tight-line release lever, and releasing the assembler-slide brake, without removal of the cover-plates. The cover may consist of two hinged plates 1, 3, Fig. 1, divided diagonally .along the upper line of the assembler belt, and held by spring catches. The lower plate 3 has a hinged door 6 carrying a spring-pressed knob 11, Fig. 2, which can be pushed in so as to effect a rib-and-groove engagement with the lower belt-pulley 5, and permit of turning of the pulley. The tight-line release lever 19, which is engaged by a projecting stop on the assembler slide, is carried by a frame 13a sliding in a slot in the lower plate 3 and held tin adjusted position by rack-mechanism. The assembler-slide brake can be released, to allow the slide to return to initial position, by means of an arm 21 pivoted on the cover-plate 3.
