Abstract
523,636. Corrugating sheet material. CHARLTON, T. H., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Jan. 11, 1939, No. 949. [Class 141] [Also in Group XVI] In a machine for making creases, corrugations &c. in sheet material, which 'is especially applicable for treating stiff material to facilitate bending, the material is placed between a roll 1 mounted in a fixed frame and a roll 2 mounted in a frame which can be rocked about the axis of the roll 1, the rolls being separated while the material is placed between them and being formed with teeth; or flutes to produce the creases. The roll 1 is secured by bolts 4 to a fixed frame 3, and the upper roll is mounted in a frame pivoted about the journals 8 of the roll 1, and can be rocked by means of a handle 19 which also serves to operate by bevel gears screws 21 for raising and lowering the roll 2 to enable the material to be inserted between the rolls and to adjust the impression during operation. The frame in which the roll 2 is mounted is fitted with counterweights 22. To ensure correct :angular adjustment of the rolls they are fitted with collars having flat sides which can be brought into alignment by the aid of at-shaped caliper gauge. Set-screws 31 ensure correct axial alignment. The roll 1 may be locked against rotation, or may rotate.
