Abstract
523,618. Alloys; annealing. HALL, E. B., and ARMENTROUT, A. L. Jan. 10, 1939, No. 837. Convention date, Jan. 18, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] [Also in Group XXI] A liner for use in oil &c. wells consists of an alloy containing aluminium as a major ingredient and either free from, or containing not more than 0.8 per cent. of Cu, Zn or other ingredients liable to attack by corrosives such as salt water, the alloy preferably having a specific gravity less than three. The alloy may comprise 0.7 per cent. Si, 1.25 per cent. Mg, 0.25 per cent. Cr and the rest Al; and pipe sections, to form the liner, may be drawn or extruded therefrom and heated to 960-980‹F., quenched in cold water, then heated to 310-325‹F. for 18 hours and allowed to cool. Other alloys comprise 1.25 per cent. Mg and the rest A1; 2.5 per cent. Mg, 0.25 per cent. Cr and the rest A1; 1 per cent. Si, 0.6 per cent. Mg and the rest Al. Fittings other than pipe sections may be of 7 per cent. Si 0.3 per cent. Mg and the rest A1 ; or 10 per cent. Mg and 90 per cent. Al. Any steel accessories to the lining may be cadmiumplated.
