505,773. Alloys. BRADBURY, T. F. Nov. 16, 1937, No. 31476. Addition to 476,930. [Classes 72 and 82 (i)] The aluminium alloys described in the parent Specification are modified by the addition of up to a total of 2 per cent of one or more of the following elements: phosphorus, niobium, tantalum, thallium, tellurium, and rare earth metals. The amount of phosphorus does not exceed 0À25 per cent, and it may be added as red phosphorus or as a phosphorus-aluminium alloy. Tantalum, niobium, and rare earth metals may be added as aluminium alloys, and thallium and tellurium as copper-aluminium alloys. The alloys may be heated to 440- 450‹ C. for 1-2 hours, quenched, reheated to 130-140‹ C. for 6-24 hours, and cooled in air. An example consists of aluminium with 1À2-2À5 per cent of copper, 4À2-5À5 per cent of zinc, 2À1-2À5 per cent of magnesium, 0À1-0À3 per cent of silicon, 0À1-0À3 per cent of iron, 0À7-1À4 per cent of tantalum, and 0À05- 0À5 per cent of niobium.
