Abstract
522,176. Bayonet-joint fastenings. WHEATON BRASS WORKS, A. W. Dec. 2, 1938, No. 35215. Convention date, Sept. 7. [Class 44] {Also in Group XXIX] An emergency, valve for tank vehicles is mounted in a detachable cage coupled to the outlet conduit. The coupling means comprises lugs 36 on a fixed curb around the valve seat 18 adapted to co-operate with a groove 32 having an interrupted flange in the base of the valve cage, a spring-pressed locking bolt passing into the groove to prevent accidental uncoupling. A long detachable wrench 45 is provided with a cam 50 for lifting the spring-loaded bolt 38 out of the groove 32 and with a pin 49 which engages one of the legs 21 of the cage which it turns until stop 37 registers lugs 36 with entrance ways 35 on the flange on the lower side of the groove 32. The flat top of the cam 50 enables the head of the bolt 38 to grip the wrench so that the whole cage may be lifted out of the tank.
