[Class 52 (iii) ] An extending leaf table has the underside of the top 1 fitted with or resting on a block or blocks 2 resting on the runners 3 of extension leaves 4 the length being sufficient to allow a gap between the table top and leaf. A pad 7 under the comers of the table top prevents rocking. Runners 3, Figs. 1 and 2 (Prov.), are arranged to rest in apertures in a guide 5 and table rails 6. On pulling the extension leaf it rises until, when its inner edge clears the outer edge of the top, the leaf is level with the top member; the top being simultaneously raised by the blocks 2. A groove 8 is formed in each runner into which the block 2 falls when the leaf is drawn out. Each block 2, Fig. 3 (Prov.), is provided with a wire lever 11. which, when the leaf is withdrawn, rests on a strip of wood 12 as shown in dotted lines Fig. 1 (Prov.). To close the table the leaf is withdrawn a little beyond its open position so that the lever 11 falls and a groove 13 on the strip 12, on pushing the leaf in, the table top is raised sufficiently. to allow the block 2 to clear the recess 8. In a modification Figs. 2 and 5 (Comp.), the blocks 2 are hinged at 18 to fixed bars 16 on the .table by a U-shaped wire 17, one leg of which carries a roller 19, and a depending lever 20. On opening the table is raised by a pin 23 engaging the under side of the runner 3 until the leaf is fully extended, when the roller 19 will rest in a slot 22. On closing, the leaf is first withdrawn slightly when the lever 20 will engage a pin 21, turning the block 2 to raise the table top 1 and withdraw the roller 19 from the slot 22 to allow the return of the leaf 4.
