Abstract

433,041. Stays. WHIDBOURNE, H., Firwood, Reading Road West, Farnborough, Hampshire. Jan. 30, 1934, No. 3142. [Class 65 (i)] A window stay comprises a bar having a longitudinal slot with a number of spaced holes for engagement with a pin which has a collar at top and bottom, the top collar preventing disengagement of the bar and being spaced from the bottom collar by a distance greater than the thickness of the stay-bar, so that the bar can slide on the pin when it is between the collars. In the form shown, the stay 1 is of box section, with the slot 11 and holes or enlargements 15 formed in its under side ; the pin 4, slidable in the slot 11, has a collar 13 larger than the holes 15 to prevent detachment of the stay and a lower collar 14 to fit the holes 15. The stay is normally held by gravity so that one of the holes 15 engages the collar 14, and when it is required to move the window the stay is raised to the position shown in Fig. 3 so that the slot 11 can move over the narrow part of the pin 4. A channel 9 fixed at the base of the pin 4 receives the stay-bar when the window is closed, to act as a fastening in place of the usual second pin ; in a modification this channel is pivoted on the pin and receives the stay-bar in all positions to prevent splaying thereof. The stay-bar may be hinged at suitable points so as to be foldable if desired. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 15201/06, 13805/08, [both in Class 65], and 108,219, [Class 65 (ii)].
