Abstract

519,742. Making return bends for pipes of heatexchangers. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd. Sept. 30, 1938, No. 28451. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1937. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Pipe-end closing.- A return bend for the tube sections of heat exchangers, more particularly flue-gas heated steam superheaters, preheaters and the like, is provided with a protection cap of heat and scale resisting metal connected with the ends of the usual heat exchanger tubes by forging at welding temperature. In a process for the manufacture of such protected return bends, sleeves 3 of heat and scale resisting metal are provided on the ends of parallel heatexchanger tubes 1 and 2. The work is then heated to welding temperature and the composite tubes 1, 3 and 2, 3 are slit and forged in known manner to form a return bend.
