Abstract
281,295. British, Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Smith, A. R.). Nov. 24, 1926, [Convention date]. Superheating tubes with external ribs and coverings.-A pipe through which flows highly heated steam or other fluid is strengthened by surrounding it with helically-wound pipes through which flows fluid of a lower temperature. A steam superheater element consists of a central pipe 9 and surrounding helically-wound pipes 10 spaced from the central pipe by a helical steel ribbon 11. The ribbon is wound in the opposite direction to the pipes and is secured to them and to the central pipe by brazing or welding. Steam flows from the inlet header 12 through the helical pipes to the outer end of the element and returns through the central pipe to the outlet header 14. The helical ribbon may be replaced by cast rings-
