Abstract

517,022. Latch handles. WITHERIDGE, A. J., and HALLDRON, C. R. July 7, 1938, No. 20092. [Class 44] To allow a latch handle 3, shown as of lever form, to be reversible for right or left hand use, a member 8 mounted on and rotatable with the handle shank 2 has a lug 9 co-operating with a stop 10 which is resilient so that it may, when desired, be depressed to let the lug 9 pass. The lug may thus be disposed to co-operate with either side of the stop. As described stop 10 is of blade-spring form held between lugs 11 on the rear recessed face of an escutcheon plate 1 in which the handle shank is rotatably mounted, and spaced from plate 1 so that it may be manually depressed below the path of lug 9. One or other limb of a U-spring 12 bears against the face of lug 9 remote from stop 10 to hold the lug and stop normally in contact. A sliding catch 14 is provided to prevent actuation of the handle by engagement in one or other of two recesses 15 in a member 6 on the handle boss. Rotation of the handle is limited by a projection, not shown, on the inner face of member 6, working in an annular groove interrupted by a segmental stop and formed in the adjacent front face of plate 1. The latch operating spindle 2a is secured within the handle as shown.
