Abstract
516,040. Cigarette-making and like machines. RUAU, F. F., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. July 9, 1938, No. 20386. [Class 130] Tobacco is fed to a carded or like roller 7 from a conveyer 6, moving at a linear speed less than that of the roller 7, by a set of prongs 11 moving in slots 10 in a guide 9 at a linear speed greater than that of the conveyer 6. As shown, the prongs 11 are carried by a bar 25 secured at its ends to a pair of connecting-rods 21 each pivoted at one end to a crank-pin 22 on a crank disc 19 and at the other end to crosshead 23 sliding in a fixed guide 24, so that the ends of the prongs travel in an elliptical path 12.' A roller 8 presses the tobacco on the conveyer 6 and is provided with grooves 13 for the passage of the prongs 11. The conveyer 6 is a smooth band and is fed with tobacco from a hopper by means of a feed roller, combing roller and picker roller. The tobacco on the roller 7 is retained by a shroud 14 and is showered by a picker roller 15 into the trough 17 of a cigarettemaking machine. In a modification, Fig. 3, a smooth roller 26 replaces the conveyer band 6 and the tobacco passes over a bridge 27 between the rollers 26,7.
