Abstract

515,696. Elastic threads; covering cores by winding. WOOD, BASTOW, & CO., Ltd., WOOD, G. J. S., and BASTOW, C. E. June 9, 1938, No. 17114. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] An elastic thread has a core composed of a number of individually covered elastic strands A', A<2>, A', Fig. 1, secured together within a covering C of textile material, the strands being disposed side by side within the outer covering, without twist with the textile coverings B', B<2>, B' of the strands forming cushions between the strands through which a needle can pass without penetrating the elastic strands; the outer covering is preferably wrapped in the opposite direction to that of the covers of the individual core strands. As shown the core is composed of three covered elastic strands, the rubber for the strands being drawn from spools D<1>, D<2>, D', Fig. 3, through hollow spindles carrying bobbins of textile covering yarn E', E<2>, E<3>. The three wrapped strands are brought together to receive the outer covering material C without twist by being passed separately through longitudinal holes in a fixed centre part extending through the spindle carrying the bobbin of 'material C which is applied to the strands close up to the end of the fixed part.
