Abstract

478,311. Cross winding machines; bobbins. MONCRIEFF, R. W., and ECCLES, T. July 14, 1936, No. 19524. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] Cross-wound packages of yarn are produced by traversing the yarn repeatedly from end to end of a rotating tubular bobbin 1 formed with a slight " waist " at the middle, whereby at each traverse the tension is progressively decreased as the yarn is wound from an end towards the middle and is progressively increased as the yarn is wound from the middle to the other end. The material of the bobbin is preferably perforated as at 2 and covered with a loose sleeve 5 of flannel or the like, secured at each end to the bobbin.
