Abstract

<PICT:0349840/IV/1> In cross-wound spools or bobbins, suitable for artificial silk and the wet treatment thereof, the ends 4 of each layer of thread project outwardly in a direction parallel to the axis of the spool over the next inner layer and the outwardly projecting ends are unsupported by the bobbin. Bobbins perforated as at 2 are used. By this form of winding, thickened hand end-portions, unfavourable for wet treatment, are avoided. The ends of the spool may be conical as shown or curved outwards, and the widening may be provided at only one end of the sleeve or omitted entirely, so that the ends of the spool are built up in exposed position.
