Abstract

515,297. Electron multipliers. FARNS. WORTH TELEVISION, Inc. Feb. 28, 1938 No. 6212. Convention date, March 22, 1937; [Class 39 (i)] In a to and fro electron multiplier the oscillating circuit 7 connected across the anode 5 and secondary emitting cathode 4 imposes a current having the wave form shown in Fig. 3 or in Fig. 5. Electrons enter the multiplying chamber by an orifice 6. The waveform shown in Fig. 3 effects oscillation so that multiplication .takes place first at a low ratio and subsequently at a high ratio. The other form allows electrons to be collected in the multiplier during the part A, B of the wave, multiplication during the part BC and collection by the anode from C to D ; the magnet coil 11 prevents collection by the anode during the first part of the cycle.
