Abstract

595,006. Pulse generating circuits; velocity-modulated tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 20, 1944, No. 25594. Convention date, July 17, 1941. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] A radio-frequency pulse generator comprises a velocity-modulated tube in which the cathode, control grid and a third electrode are connected externally in a blocking oscillator circuit. The Figure shows electrode 23 as the anode of the blocking oscillator section and an autotransformer 16 gives positive reaction between the anode and grid circuits to produce blocked oscillations with a recurrence frequency determined by the time constant of the biassing network 17, 18 in the cathode circuit. The short pulses of cathode current are focused by accelerating electrode 4, which is connected to a stabilizing network 21, 22 to avoid defocusing, and then pass to the Klystron section comprising resonant chamber grouping and extracting circuits 5 and 6 respectively, coupling loop 13 and collector electrode 7. In a simplified version (Fig. 1, not shown), electrode 23 and the stabilizing network are omitted and accelerating electrode 4 is used as the anode in the blocking oscillator section. Specifications 547,715 and 564,731 are referred to.
