Abstract

597,755. Pulsed carrier generators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 24, 1945, No. 21831. Convention date, May 1, 1944. [Class 40 (v)] A radio-frequency oscillator is excited by a positive impulse to the anode circuit to give an output pulse of R.F. energy which has an envelope shaped by pulse-shaping means in the grid circuit. The Figure shows a push-pull oscillator 9 with tuned Lecher lines 5, 6 and 12, 13 connected respectively to the anodes and grids of each valve section. Positive pulses 2 from source 1 provide H.T. for anodes 7, 8 to initiate oscillations and cause grid current to flow into pulse shaping network 17, 18 which consists of a large capacitor shunted by a relatively small resistor. Charge accumulating on the capacitor, blocks the valve during the decline of anode voltage and produces a substantially symmetrical pulse envelope 24 for the R.F. oscillations, which are fed to antenna 29 through inductive loop 25 and amplifier stage 27.
